School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
At Rochester Secondary College (RSC), we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. A key part of this commitment is our implementation of School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS).
What is SWPBS?
SWPBS is an evidence-based framework implemented in schools across Victoria and beyond. It brings school communities together to create a positive, predictable and inclusive environment built on shared expectations and consistent practices.
- At RSC, SWPBS supports:
- Increased positive and respectful behaviour
- Greater focus on learning and classroom instruction
- Stronger relationships between students and staff
- Improved student wellbeing and attendance
- A safer and more predictable learning environment
Our approach is grounded in our college values of Growth, Respect, Optimism and Wellbeing, which guide how we learn, interact and contribute to our school community.

By making expectations clear and consistent, we support every student to experience success.
Our Non-Negotiables
Our college-wide expectations are designed to ensure the safety, wellbeing and success of every member of our community.
We are a mobile device free school
In line with Department of Education policy, mobile phones, smart watches, wireless earphones and portable music players must be stored in lockers from 8:55am–3:15pm. Devices seen during the school day will be collected and taken to the office.
We value attendance and punctuality
Homegroup begins at 8:55am each morning and is an important start to the school day. Every day matters. Being present and on time supports academic growth, connection and overall wellbeing.
We use respectful language
Respect is one of our core values. Verbal abuse, inappropriate language or behaviour that undermines others is not accepted at RSC. We are committed to maintaining a positive and inclusive environment for all.
We respect diversity
RSC celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion. Discrimination, harassment or vilification of any kind — based on race, gender, identity, religion or any other attribute — is not tolerated.
We prioritise safety and wellbeing
All students and staff have the right to feel safe at school. RSC has a zero-tolerance approach to violence and behaviours that compromise the wellbeing of others.
Reinforcing Positive Behaviour
At RSC, we don’t just teach expectations — we recognise and celebrate them.
- Students receive Chronicle points for demonstrating Growth, Respect, Optimism and Wellbeing.
- Points can be redeemed through the Rochy Rewards system, where students receive gift cards & special meals redeemable at our school canteen.
- Recognising positive behaviour reinforces our culture of optimism and growth.
Supporting Success: How Parents and Carers Can Help
Families are essential partners in supporting student success. You can reinforce our college values by:
- Discussing the RSC values of Growth, Respect, Optimism and Wellbeing at home
- Encouraging consistent attendance and punctuality
- Supporting college policies around devices, behaviour and uniform
- Celebrating positive feedback from school, including Chronicle points and awards
Together, we create a strong partnership that supports every student to grow, achieve and experience success at Rochester Secondary College.
