- Build oral communication skills: presentations, meetings, discussions and negotiations
- Develop research, evaluation and information literacy skills
- Build the literacy skills required for TAFE study and vocational certification
Literacy is the foundation of every career — VCE VM Literacy develops the practical communication skills that employers consistently identify as the most important qualities in young employees.
School-based coursework throughout the year in workplace and community contexts. No external VCAA examination — all assessment at RSC.
Supports all vocational and further education pathways — directly applicable to TAFE programs, trade apprenticeships and the full range of vocational careers.
Foundation Mathematics
VCE Vocational Major — Compulsory

- Apply number skills in financial contexts: budgeting, wages, tax, loans and superannuation
- Use measurement skills in practical contexts: area, volume, length, weight and capacity
- Interpret and create graphs, tables and statistical displays for real-world purposes
- Develop spatial reasoning and problem-solving for vocational and trade applications
- Build the mathematical skills required for TAFE study and vocational programs
Practical mathematical ability is essential for every career — Foundation Mathematics develops the numeracy skills that enable students to manage money, interpret data and participate confidently in the working world.
School-based coursework throughout the year in everyday and workplace contexts. No external VCAA examination — all assessment at RSC.
Supports pathways into TAFE programs, trade apprenticeships and all vocational careers. Develops numeracy for Certificate II, III and IV programs.
Personal Development Skills
VCE Vocational Major — Compulsory

- Develop self-management skills: goal setting, time management and personal accountability
- Build teamwork, collaboration and constructive conflict resolution through group projects
- Design and complete a sustained community engagement project demonstrating initiative
- Develop emerging leadership capabilities and the ability to support others
- Understand workplace expectations, professional conduct and the qualities employers value most
Personal development skills are consistently identified by employers as the most important qualities they look for in young employees — PDS gives students the structured opportunity to develop and demonstrate these.
School-based coursework throughout the year: community engagement project, reflective portfolio, group project participation and personal development documentation. No external examination.
Develops qualities required for every career and further education pathway — the community engagement component is particularly valued by employers and education providers.
Work Related Skills

- Research and explore career pathways aligned with personal interests, values and skills
- Develop resume writing, cover letter and job application skills at a professional level
- Understand workplace rights, responsibilities and expectations under Australian employment law
- Practise job interview skills and professional communication in simulated environments
- Develop understanding of workplace health and safety and industrial relations
Work Related Skills directly prepares students for the transition from school to the working world — students leave with the knowledge, tools and confidence to present themselves professionally and navigate the Australian workplace.
