Art Creative Practice
VCE Arts · Units 1 & 2
▾
Research and investigation inform art making. Through studying artworks and the practices of artists, students develop their individual art practice and communicate ideas using a range of materials, techniques and processes.
Use the Creative Practice to explore ideas through experiential learning. Discuss the practices of three artists using the Structural and Personal Lens, and develop and document personal visual responses.
Use inquiry learning to investigate the practices of artists via the Cultural Lens. Make and present a collaborative artwork exploring a social or cultural idea, and critically reflect on your use of the Creative Practice.
Media
VCE Arts · Units 1 & 2
▾
Students analyse media concepts, forms and products critically, considering narratives, technologies and processes, and examine debates about the role of media in society, before designing and producing their own media representations.
Explore how media representations and meaning are constructed for audiences. Design, produce and evaluate a media representation, and analyse the structural features of Australian narratives.
Explore narrative across traditional and newer media forms. Analyse a creator's style and the influence of narrative on audience, apply the media production process to create a narrative, and discuss the influence of new media technologies.
Visual Communication Design
VCE Arts · Units 1 & 2
▾
Focuses on the study and creation of visual language and its role in communicating ideas, solving problems and influencing behaviour. Students find and address design problems and employ the design process to deliver solutions.
Use human-centred research methods to reframe a design problem. Create visual language for a business or brand, and develop a sustainable object considering the factors that influence design.
Present an environmental design solution drawing on a chosen design style. Apply culturally appropriate design practices to personal iconography, and design an interface for a digital product, environment or service.

Develops literate individuals capable of critical and creative thinking, moving from personal interpretation to reflection and critical analysis of texts, while building strong writing skills for a range of purposes and audiences.
Make personal connections with a set text through reading and viewing. Craft your own texts designed for a specific context and audience, explaining the choices made in writing.
Analyse how a text's vocabulary, structure and language construct meaning. Analyse a persuasive text on a contemporary issue and construct your own point-of-view text for oral presentation.
Literature

Fosters enjoyment of stories and storytelling. By reading and exploring established and emerging literary works, students become active readers and writers, extending their critical and creative voices.
Respond to a range of texts through close analysis. Explore the conventions of a selected literary movement or genre alongside a complete text.
Explore the voices, perspectives and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and creators, and analyse the representation of a specific time period or culture.

Based on the premise that health is a dynamic condition, influenced by complex interrelationships between individuals and biomedical, behavioural, physical and social factors.
Explore health and wellbeing as a concept with varied definitions. Explain dimensions of health and indicators of health status, analyse sociocultural factors affecting youth health, and apply nutrition information.
Investigate transitions in health, wellbeing and human development from lifespan and societal perspectives, including developmental change from youth to adulthood and access to Australia's health system.
Physical Education

Explores the interrelationships between anatomical, biomechanical, physiological and skill-acquisition principles, and the behavioural, psychological and sociocultural influences on performance and participation.
Explore how the muscular/skeletal and cardiorespiratory systems interact to produce movement, and evaluate the use of performance-enhancing substances and methods.
Develop an understanding of physical activity from a participatory perspective — analyse participation data and design a personalised activity plan.
Outdoor Environmental Studies

Provides the skills and knowledge to safely participate in outdoor environments, blending direct practical experience with theory-based study of human relationships with nature.
Examine how Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples understand and relate to nature. Plan to safely and sustainably participate in outdoor experiences.

Explores the financial recording, reporting, analysis and decision-making processes of a sole proprietor small business, studying both theoretical and practical aspects.
Investigate reasons for establishing a business, use accounting reports, and determine profit for a service business using the accrual method.
Investigate inventory cost assignment methods (FIFO and Identified Cost), and record and report accounts receivable/payable and non-current assets and depreciation.

History
Modern History — Units 1 & 2
▾
Modern History examines the events and ideas that shaped the 20th century. At Rochester, Units 3 & 4 (History: Revolutions) study two revolutions — American and Russian — asking the same questions of causes and consequences but arriving at very different answers.
Change and Conflict — the ideologies and movements that challenged the old world order, the causes and consequences of World War One, and the rise of fascism and communism.
The nature and impact of the Cold War, and challenges and changes to social, political and economic power structures across the second half of the 20th century.

Investigate food systems in contemporary Australia, responding to a design brief that produces a food product and evaluating food for different dietary requirements.

Provides participants with the knowledge, skill and competency to enhance training and employment prospects across the furnishing industries — cabinet making, wood machining, polishing, upholstery and picture framing.
Develop a career plan for the furnishing industry; participate in environmentally sustainable work practices; demonstrate care and apply safe work practices — plus a minimum of five elective units (90+ nominal hours).
Students are assessed on a combination of Portfolios, a Product, an Industry Project and Work Performance.
