The ‘2018 Murray River Culinary Challenge Grand Final’ was held yesterday at Echuca TAFE.
Our extremely talented finalists were Stephanie Crouch and Jasmin Malham who had won their way into this prestigious Grand Final by winning the Regional Final. The girls’ task for the day was to prepare, cook, plate and serve, four serves of a three course meal.
The menu was as follows:
DISH 1: Smoked trout and spinach tart with roasted pumpkin, feta and rocket salad
DISH 2: Herb crusted lamb rack with olive oil mash, buttered spring vegetables and red wine jus
DISH 3: Spiced cranberry poached pears
There were four teams of two students from the Murray River Regions including Wangaratta, Murray Valley, Goulburn Murray and our students representing Campaspe Region.
The teams were judged on bench & stove work, workflow, OH&S, hygiene methods and principles of cookery, preparation of three menu items and creative presentation.
Our students worked beautifully together, staying calm throughout the two hours of arduous work. Their delivered meals looked and tasted sensational.
After the judges had made their final tallies of each team, on each course based on the many criteria, our girls came an extremely close runners-up to the winners from Wangaratta.
Congratulations must go to Steph and Jasmin who represented our school amazingly well and we could not be more proud of their efforts, their talents and their professionalism in this competition and their hospitality studies and skills overall. Well done girls!
