Framed drawings by Year 7 Rochester Secondary College Visual Arts students Jo Brown, Ava Cottam and Dana Mussared are currently on show at Kits Kafe in Rochester.
Visual Arts teacher, Meg Doller, was keen to provide students with an opportunity to publicly exhibit their art and for her students’ work to be seen by the community.
‘I have been aware of the support Kits Kafe extends to local practicing artists for some time.’ Ms Doller said. ‘I approached Kits Kafe owner, Brooke Walkley to see if student works could be included and she was really enthusiastic about the idea.’ ‘I love collaborating with local businesses to create real-world opportunities for our students, and can’t thank Brooke and Kits Kafe enough for their support.’
The works on show are a trio of impressive shell drawings. Students had one minute (timed) to draw each shell before passing it to a classmate on their left and receiving a new shell from a classmate on their right. The resultant drawings were photocopied and each student chose a media to add colour.
‘We are so happy to be given the opportunity to be able to show Rochester’s next up-and-coming art talent. We want to thank the students and Meg for this great opportunity’ said Brooke. ‘It’s amazing for the students to be able to get their work out there. We encourage people to come in and check them out.’
Meg is open to conversations with other venues who may be interested in showing student work. Owners are asked to make contact via the Rochester Secondary College office.
